Attendance
Every School Day Matters!
We want to give every child at Moulsecoomb Primary the best start in their education and learning. We need your support as parents and carers to ensure that your child doesn't miss out.
Please bring them to school every day. Every child at Moulsecoomb Primary should be aiming for attendance above 97%.
The Government has issued new guidance to all schools which I wish to share with you.
If a parent or carer fails to secure their child’s regular attendance at school, they are committing a criminal offence (under terms of the Education Act 1996). A Penalty Notice may be issued in cases of ‘Unauthorised Absence’.
Unauthorised absences are:
- Unauthorised leave during term time, including holidays.
- Persistent late arrivals at school (after the register has closed).
- No reason is given to the school by parent/ carer for a child’s absence from school.
The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2013 prohibits Head teachers granting leave of absence to a pupil except where an application has been made in advance and the Head teacher considers that there are exceptional circumstances. Leave of absence application forms can be obtained from the school office.
A fixed penalty notice (issued by the Local Authority) is £60 per parent per child to be paid within 21 days. If the penalty notice is not paid within 21days, the penalty will increase to £120. If the higher penalty is not paid within 28 days, the parent/ carer may be prosecuted by the Local Authority.
If you would like any advice about getting your child to school every day please ask at the School Office.
